Member Ronald Sachse

ANG Advisor to the Civil Engineer of the Air Force

colonel ronald v. sachse is air national guard (ang) advisor/assistant to the civil engineer, office of the civil engineer, deputy chief of staff logistics, installations & mission support, headquarters united states air force, washington dc.  he also serves in an advisory capacity on the ang director's advisory staff on emerging headquarters air force (haf) issues and initiatives related to the ang and other issues of strategic significance to the total civil engineering mission.  he advises and assists the af civil engineer in the development of air staff level policy for all aspects of ang facilities and military engineering activities; contributes to preparing and defending milcon, facilities maintenance and repair, and operating programs in excess of $800 million per year with over 177 installations located in each state and major territory with a plant replacement value of $ 14b; establishes force structure and policy for over 9,000 ang personnel in civil engineer squadrons, fire protection, readiness and explosive ordinance disposal teams.  he has also served as the associate civil engineer for the af civil engineer. 

colonel sachse entered the air force/ang is 1981 as an enlisted member with a specialty code as an aircraft armament systems specialist.  he received his commission in 1986 from the ang academy of military science.  he developed a broad base-level background by serving as the commander, base civil engineer, fire marshall, deputy base civil engineer and chief of operations of the 115 civil engineer squadron, truax field, madison wisconsin.  he worked with various af aircraft ranging from c-12s, c-26s, c-130s, a-10s, to f-16s and army uh-1hs, ah-64s, to uh-60s.  during this time the installation won numerous awards for design and construction from the air force, air national guard and the wisconsin society of architects - aia.  in 1989 the installation won the tactical air command (tac) annual facility inspection as the best tac gained air national guard flying unit.  colonel sachse has served on the air force automated civil engineer systems (aces) board as part of the operations integrated process team (ipt), on the air force aces computer-aided drafting and design/geographic information systems (cadd/gis) ipt and on the air national guard civil engineer financial board.   he has been the chairman of the joint service reserve component facility board for the state of wisconsin.   he has served as the on-scene commander for various aircraft incidents.   he has also been the commander of the survival recovery center at various times in his career.  he deployed to numerous installations around the world during his career commanding individuals in design, construction and facilities management.  in 1999 he deployed into prince sultan air base in saudi arabia to command a diverse group of individuals from the ang and usaf in the mission support group.  in 2003 he became the first director for air national guard affairs in the office of the deputy assistant secretary of the air force for installations.  he was the principle advisor to the deputy assistant secretary for matters concerning ang as it relates to installations.  he represented the deputy assistant secretary with local communities and congressional staff sensitive on mission realignment issues impacting ang units.  he is a certified facility manager.

colonel sachse is married to former sansinea gonzalez of madison, wisconsin.  they have three children; two sons, lucas and aaron and one daughter juliann.
