The George Mason University FM Certificate Program is now a licensed provider for IFMA’s new Sustainable Facility Manager (SFP) courses. The (3) course modules required to earn the SFP credential will be offered in January-March, 2012 in 2-day instructor led classes in Fairfax, VA. The course modules are offered as a package and completion of each module is a pre-requisite for the remaining sessions. FMs interested in playing a key leadership role in creating, managing and operating sustainable facilities across the FM spectrum are encouraged to attend. Module 2 will be held on February 24th and 25th from 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and will address “Managing Sustainable Facilities.” This section looks in depth at the process of aligning a facility‘s sustainability plan with an organization‘s vision, strategic goals and policies. It takes the same strategies promoted in an SFP’s business case for sustainability within the organization, and provides the details behind the plans to prepare for, lead and implement those changes. Completion of module 1 is required prior to attendance at this session, and this module must be completed prior to attendance at module 3. |

The four (4) courses required to earn the FMP credential will be offered in January-April 2012 in 2-day instructor-led modules in Fairfax, VA. Anyone interested in earning this knowledge-based credential is encouraged to attend these Friday/Saturday classroom courses which use the same printed materials, interactive study tools and online FMP assessments at the self-study program. The third 2-day course in this series will be on March 9th and 10th, from 8:30am - 5:00pm both days, and will address "Finance and Business Essentials". Facility managers manage/oversee high-value assets that represent significant financial investment in technology, buildings, structures, interiors, exteriors and grounds. Since facility managers are typically responsible for the oversight, operation and maintenance of the buildings and grounds, as well as oversight of various service contracts, understanding the basics of finance and business is critical. |

Interested in helping keep our watershed clean? For the second year in a row the chapter will participate in the annual Potomac River Watershed Cleanup event organized by the Alice Ferguson Foundation. The 2011 cleanup took place at over 500 sites in DC, Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania and West Virginia – all part of the lands that drain into the Potomac. Last year 55 chapter members and their families removed trash and invasive plants from Riverbend Park in Great Falls, VA and we are ready to do it again this year! Families are welcome to participate. We have reserved a picnic pavilion at the park and lunch will be provided. Come out and join us for a great cause! Sponsorship opportunities are available! They must be able to align the facility portfolio with the entire organization’s missions and available resources, and to be innovative in order to move forward with their staff and processes to respond to the ever-changing requirements. |
