Education Team

As one of the largest local chapters in IFMA, the Education Team of the Capital Chapter works collaboratively to support our chapter members and the local facility management community with outstanding professional development and educational opportunities. Our goal is to provide and align knowledge with core competencies, support our members in their professional growth and advance the profession of facility management.

Scott Hulick Professional Development Scholarship - Deadline Extended!

The Capital Chapter of IFMA is pleased to announce the Scott Hulick Professional Development Scholarship. During his time at GMU, Scott raised the profile of the FM profession and encouraged countless chapter members to pursue professional development. In 2009 the scholarship was established in his honor to assist chapter members who are taking, or plan to take, courses in the GMU Professional Certificate FM Program.

The award is in the amount of $500.00 and is open to chapter members who are current or potential students in the GMU Professional Certificate FM Program. Applications are being accepted through March 15th and the winner will be announced at the Annual Credentials Dinner this Spring. Applications will be reviewed based on merit with consideration for financial need. Click here for more information and to access the application. We support our members by working in four committees whose coordinated efforts provide these opportunities:

Professsional Development Committee

• Promote and advocate IFMA credentials: FMP, CFM & SFP
• Coordinate CFM examination reviews/study sessions

Programs Committee

  • Develops relevant live and virtual educational programs of value to Capital Chapter members.
  • Promotes planned educational programs and prepares marketing materials for newsletter and email notices.
  • Plans the program time, secures location and manages logistics (caterers, room set-up, A/V needs, agenda, introductions/welcome).
  • Meets with speaker(s) to coordinate the program.
  • Secures CFM maintenance points for qualifying programs.

Emerging Leaders Committee

  • Develops educational programs of interest to the 35+ under group and/or those new to the FM profession.
  • Promotes planned educational programs and prepares marketing materials for newsletter and email notices.
  • Plans the program time, secures location and manages logistics (caterers, room set-up, A/V needs, agenda, introductions/welcome).
  • Develops, promotes and plans social networking activities.

Networking Committee

  • Promotes networking opportunities with similarly placed business associates.
  • Provides opportunities for information sharing and the professional development of members.
  • Advances the practice of facility management by sharing lessons learned and best practices with colleagues.
  • Currently, there is only a Public Sector Networking Group, but we would like to offer additional networking groups based on specific niches of facility management.
