GMU Facility Management Certificate Program
The Professional Development Team works closely with George Mason University and its Facility Management Certificate Program. The Team promotes and encourages chapter members and non members alike to participate.
Background
The George Mason University Facility Management Certificate Program offers professional development opportunities for IFMA Capital Chapter members and other Washington DC area facility managers. Face-to-face courses are offered at Mason's Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William sites as well as in Washington, DC. Evening open enrollment courses are offered during five 7-week cycles per year, and onsite contract training is conducted for many local governmental and private industry organizations.
CFM & FMP Credentials
Educational content is organized around IFMA's nine competency areas and the Professional Certificate in Facility Management is awarded upon successful completion of 7 core and 3 elective courses. As one of 5 US certificate programs recognized by IFMA, completion of 4 GMU courses will fully satisfy the requirements for award of the Facility Management Professional (FMP) designation from IFMA. (FM 100, FM 105, FM 115 and FM 215; See addl. details on GMU website) In addition, program coursework is also excellent preparation for the Certified Facility Manager (CFM) exam and can serve to provide training in any competency area where an individual may be lacking work experience.
Teaching Opportunities
Teaching opportunities are also available for the seasoned, credentialed professional and many Chapter members support the GMU program as instructors. Questions regarding teaching opportunities may be directed to Kirt Miller, CFM at KirMi@aol.com.
